Bull Rider Douglas Duncan Sets his Sights on Back-to-Back Tucson Championships

Douglas Duncan of Alvin, Texas, arrived today as Tucson’s  defending  champion  --  his hopes of another Tucson win could have ended before it began. Duncan mounted Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Crooked Nose and was thrown to the arena floor when the bull caught a horn on the chute gate.  The judges called a foul and Crooked Nose was reloaded into the chute. This time, Duncan was the victor earning an 88, the high score of the week.

Other notable performances came from Bill Snure of Benson, Ariz., who clocked an 8.7 in tie-down roping and Rusty Allen of Eagle Mountain, Utah, who posted an 84 in saddle bronc riding to move into position for a finals slot.

The field of qualifiers for the finals will be determined after Saturday’s rodeo, with the top 12 competitors in each event returning on Sunday, March 1.

The Tucson Rodeo continues Saturday, February 28 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
